The “Building a Writing Practice” curriculum was jam-packed with ideas to help you build a sustainable and energizing writing practice. Now I want to help you actually make use of some of these ideas! And I want to provide a supportive space that gives you some accountability, a bit of dedicated time for regular reflection and planning, and some coaching (in an encouraging group setting) to help you navigate any productivity challenges you are struggling with.

The group will include four components: a weekly email, an accountability thread on Teachable, live weekly accountability + cowriting sessions, and live monthly group coaching calls.

More specifically, you’ll get:

  • A brief weekly email from me that highlights a couple of specific strategies from the “Building a Writing Practice” curriculum as well as one or two optional exercises from the curriculum.

    • I may occasionally mix in new strategies and exercises, too! But my focus will be on circling back to some of the strategies and exercises that feel especially useful from those that I’ve already introduced, to help you actually bring some of those ideas into your week-to-week writing practice and work life.

  • A “cheering each other on” thread on the Teachable forum

    • I’ll create a thread where you can post about your goals and about how things are going.

  • Three 45-minute group coaching sessions (on weeks 1, 5, and 9—so every four weeks)

    • The first one will especially focus on planning; the second will especially focus on protecting our time and focus; the third will be completely flexible, and just focus on whatever issues people are navigating! (And even in the first two sessions, we also prioritize discussion of specific issues people are working through!)

  • A 2-hour accountability & cowriting call each week (a short reflection & check-in session followed by 90 minutes of cowriting)

    • I’m imagining the following flow:

      • A short writing prompt about how the previous week went, your priorities for the next week, and your specific next step (a variation on the “plus-minus-next” journal that weaves in some ideas from the “Building a Writing Practice” curriculum)

      • ~10 minutes for sharing about our challenges, little wins, and goals

      • A couple of minutes for comments from me on the strategies/exercises that I highlighted in the email

      • Our first 45-minute cowriting session!

      • A 5-minute break: we’ll check in about how things are going and stretch our legs

      • Another 45-minute cowriting session! (I’ll briefly cue people after 40 minutes for an optional 5 minutes of “wrap up”—time to jot down notes for the next session, write down ideas for next steps, think about what went well, etc.)

      • ~5 minutes on a final check-in about how things went, what our goals are for the coming week

Times:

I’m planning to hold the 2-hour calls from 10:1512:15 ET (9:15–11:15 CT, 8:15–10:15 MT, 7:15–9:15 PT); day of the week TBD. (I will see which days work for the most people! I won’t invoice anybody for the group until at least five people have registered and I’ve set the day of the week.)

I’m thinking that the 45-minute group coaching calls will be from 12:45–1:30 ET (11:45–12:30 CT, 10:45–11:30 MT, 9:45–10:30 PT); day of the week TBD. (I will see which days work for the most people! I won’t invoice anybody for the group until at least five people have registered and I’ve set the day of the week.) Please note that these calls will be just every four weeks, during week 1, week 5, and week 9.
